The Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur (KL), was the next destination. It was a last minute travel plan, a decision based on the fact that I would either have to fly out of there or Singapore for onward travel, both being relatively close to each other.
People generally like KL, don't hate it but don't seem to get overly excited about it either, I found it a well worth visit. I guess my expectations were never that high to start with. It is an impressive city with a dashing skyline, high rise modern buildings and a decent traffic system, I didn't witness any aggressive driving or traffic issues when I was there. The country is clean too and crime is not as prominent as other cities in Asia. I found there to be a huge cultural mix here, from china, japan, India and Thailand, which can be seen in the faces walking by and the cuisine on show. Kuala Lumpur literally means "Muddy estuary" which stems from the Chinese tin-mining village that originated here, the British ruled Malaya at this time before being defeated in 1957. There are many historic tourist attractions to see here, below you can check out some of the images I've posted. Food and shopping are big pull factors for KL too, plenty of markets and high end shopping (not to mention the indoor roller coast at Berhjaya Times square shopping mall) to keep you happy. I couldn't leave the blog too without mentioning the accomodation, the highest standard of hostel I've been in so far, Reggae Mansion! Great job guys!
Melacca - Soutbound in Malaysia
Heading towards Singapore I stopped off at the coastal city of Melacca. What a treat it was, a nifty, pretty little spot located on the Malacca river. Having said that, it was only really pretty at or closely nearby the river, out from this is a sprawling concrete jungle of business parks with a coastline that is very unflattering, get it sorted!!! We managed to arrive at the time of the Melacca river festival 2013 , check out this small video of the festival antics!
